What is DEFRA?
DEFRA is the UK government’s Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, they are responsible for environmental protection, food production and standards, agriculture and fisheries.
DEFRA plays a key role in regulating the import and export of animals, animal products, plants and plant products. It sets sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) requirements, oversees biosecurity controls at the border and works closely with other agencies such as Border Force and HMRC to enforce regulations and ensure compliance with UK and international regulations.
