What is an EHC?

For trade being exported to the EU, most POAO (products of animal origin) require an EHC to prove their conformity and suitability. An EHC must be issued by the exporter and endorsed by an authorised vet.

For Trade with NI there are schemes like NIRMS that may allow the goods avoid the need for an EHC. (Link to NIRMS page)

for entry into GB the requirement for an EHC is based on the risk category of the goods (Link here to DEFRA risk categorisations - https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/risk-categories-for-animal-and-animal-product-imports-to-great-britain). It is important that importers check the categorisation of goods before shipping to check whether the product being shipped is Medium/High risk and needs an EHC, or low risk and can be shipped using commercial documents.
