Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA)

The Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA) is the free trade agreement between the United Kingdom and the European Union, which came into effect on 1 January 2021 following Brexit.

The TCA allows for tariff-free and quota-free trade between the UK and EU, provided that goods meet the rules of origin requirements set out in the agreement. It also establishes the framework for cooperation in areas such as customs, transport, fisheries, and regulatory standards.

To benefit from preferential duty rates under the TCA, traders must be able to demonstrate the origin of their goods, typically through a statement on origin or the importer’s knowledge.
