Safety and Security Declaration (SSD)
Safety and Security Declarations are pre-arrival or pre-departure customs filings that provide advance information about goods moving across borders. They are used by customs authorities to carry out risk assessments and identify potential security or safety threats before the goods arrive or leave.
In the UK and EU, these declarations are typically submitted as:
- Entry Summary Declarations (ENS) for imports
- Exit Summary Declarations (EXS) for exports
They include key details such as the consignor, consignee, description of goods, routing, and transport information.
Safety and Security Declarations are usually the responsibility of the carrier (or another party in the supply chain, depending on the agreement) and must be submitted within specific timeframes before arrival or departure.
