Red Lane (NI)

The Red Lane is the customs route for goods moving from Great Britain to Northern Ireland that are at risk of entering the EU, or where the trader is not authorised to use simplified arrangements.

Goods moving through the Red Lane are subject to full customs procedures, including standard declarations, payment of any applicable duties, and sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) checks where required. This ensures compliance with EU customs and regulatory rules, as Northern Ireland remains aligned with certain EU requirements.

The Red Lane applies where goods may be sold on, processed, or moved onwards into the EU, or where insufficient information is available to confirm that the goods will remain in Northern Ireland.
