Export declaration

An Export Declaration is a formal submission made to customs authorities providing details about goods leaving a country. It is used to declare the nature, value, origin, and classification of the goods, and to ensure compliance with any export controls, restrictions, or licensing requirements.

The declaration typically includes information such as the commodity code, value, destination country, consignor and consignee details, and the customs procedure being used.

Export declarations are usually submitted electronically via systems such as CDS (Customs Declaration Service) in the UK. Once accepted, customs may grant permission for the goods to be exported and, where applicable, monitor their exit from the customs territory.

Accurate export declarations are important for regulatory compliance, trade statistics, and proof of export (for example, to support zero-rated VAT on exports).
