Animal By-Products (ABPs) are materials derived from animals that are not intended for human consumption, this includes carcasses, parts of animals and substances such as blood, feathers or manure.
They are classified into three categories depending on the level of risk they pose to public and animal health, depending on their category these goods must either be safely disposed of or may be processed into products such as compost, pet food and biogas.
ABPs must be handled, transported and disposed of in line with strict regulations to prevent the spread of disease and protect the food chain, public health and the environment.
